“We could do better than them"
This was the statement that started it all...
White House Lettings began in 2014, and was ironically born out of a conversation over Sunday lunch saying “We could do better than them”.
Nick and Debbie had rental properties of their own but were NEVER happy nor satisfied with service from Letting agents.
Frustrated with the lack of communication, hidden fees and outright poor service they’d received over the years, we decided as a family, enough was enough and we would create a letting agents that was different.
We set out to provide the service landlords and tenants really want and deserve.
With Debbie being made redundant from her recruitment role, Samantha made the decision to leave her job at Boots Head office and set up White House Lettings with her Mum Debbie.
Ian worked alongside them in the background whilst serving as a police officer for Nottinghamshire Police.
What happened next?
White House Lettings was originally going to be an online local letting agents, based out of Samantha and Ian’s House – which is painted White. Neighbours often referred to it as ‘The White House’ and we believed this was both catchy and easily identifiable.
Once market research had been completed we realised it was important to tenants and landlords for us to have a dedicated office, where they could speak to someone in person.
Keeping the true family element at the heart of our business Ian’s Grandmother had an empty shop which was previously a popular butchers in Kirkby.
From there we approached Ashfield District Council for support, who happened to have grants available to transform empty shops into occupied premises. Drawing on Samantha’s business knowledge we submitted our business plan and were pleased when we were approved. We quickly refurbished the shop and we opened the doors to White House Lettings with bright pink branding chosen by Samantha!
From the very start we set out to be completely honest and transparent with our pricing unlike many of our competitors.
In an industry where letting agents are very complicated and have many hidden fees, we made our pricing easy to understand and we have NO UP FRONT FEES.
Our mission was to be the best at customer service and to genuinely make customers feel valued. We set out to make our customers feel like part of our family and push the boundaries of what is reasonably expected to be delivered from a letting agents. We wanted tenants to feel valued and cared for...

Did it work?
Since 2014 we have grown organically without the need for any advertisement.
We’ve relied on the best form of marketing we know – word of mouth. As we worked with more landlords who were delighted with our service and pricing they helped spread the word and gave us many recommendations.
Our tenants, who are often neglected in the industry, are just as valuable to us. That feeling of being cared about and valued has seen a significant rise in tenants on our waiting list wanting to become part of the White House Lettings Family.
As the business has continued to grow we have been through our own learning curve. Our expansion has resulted in Ian leaving Nottinghamshire Police after 10 years to now be part of White House Lettings full time.
Day to day business
Our core opening hours are 10:00am to 16:00pm, Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours we reserve appointments for viewings, inspections and meeting new customers.
In the office you will find us working in an environment designed to feel more like your own living room rather than a commercial letting agents.
We are fully compliant with all leading bodies and always ahead of legislation including the recently passed tenant fee ban forcing many small letting agents out of business.
